Tips on maintaining your personal style with jewellery.
Most of us have a love affair with our jewellery whether we realise or not. If you’re thinking ‘not me’, then ask yourself this; how often do you leave the house without wearing ANY jewellery at all? Like most people, probably not that often.
Whether it’s for practical or romantic reasons, such as a watch, your engagement & wedding rings, or to accessorise for special occasions; jewellery makes us look good and feel great.
Your jewellery is a style statement, so we’ve put together a collection of style tips and inspiration on how to best use jewellery to your fashion advantage.
Enhance Your Style with Jewellery
There is nothing that brings a smile to our face like a pretty ring, a jangly necklace, or some sparkling earrings. Big or small, real or imitation, understated or over-the-top, jewellery lifts the spirits. It also lifts a look. A wide cuff or chandelier earrings could be just the thing to make an ordinary outfit outstanding. Even Vivien Westwood says of her new jewellery line: “jewellery will brighten up even the most mundane of outfits!”
Bring Life to Outfits with Necklaces
There are so many directions you can go when it comes to necklaces, from timeless (a diamond necklace or a strand of pearls) to bold (a collar necklace) and lots of places in between. Consider the vibe you are going for and add your necklace accordingly.
So for example, timeless pearls always create a classy and understated air. Then at the opposite end of the scale is the bold collar necklace, a fantastic and very popular trend for autumn because it brings life to any outfit. Because a collar necklace sits high around your collarbone, it really flatters your neckline and creates a bold or an elegant look.
“Elegance is the only beauty that never fades” ~ Audrey Hepburn
The great thing about bold and timeless pieces is that they can be paired with many different styles of outfit to make your look really come together. You can also find them in a good mix of price ranges to suite a wide range of budgets.
Face-Framing with Earrings
Whether you prefer simple studs for every day wear or dangly drops, earrings have a big impact on your outfit. Even when they’re relatively small, they are still in the direct line of vision of anyone you talk to, so they should be well chosen.
Diamond stud earrings, whether they’re real or cubic zirconia make you feel like a million, and are possibly the perfect accessory – there’s not many outfits that they don’t go with!
They’re classy and stylish with the basic little black dress. Or you can pair them with a chic black turtleneck, skinny jeans, and riding boots for a chic look in seconds!
Face-framing chandelier earrings can really add punch to an outfit – they’re unapologetically glam by drawing attention to your eyes and adding sparkle around your face. They’re at their most versatile in silver and black, as this design calls enough attention to them without needing to add colour.
Chandeliers also compliment bare shoulders or your collar bone very well, so consider them if you’re planning to wear a strapless or halter-style dress.
Keep your jewellery clean and looking great
In order to get the best out of your pieces you must keep your jewellery clean and in good shape. Silver and gold are both soft metals that will become scratched and dulled with time. Read our jewellery care & maintenance guides for lots of helpful tips to keep it looking great. It’s also a good idea to bring your jewellery to your Jeweller to have it professionally re-polished, re-plated and cleaned from time to time. We will also check that the settings for stones are still secure. Once yearly should be suitable for pieces that you wear often.
In part II of our blog we’ll be looking at how rings, bracelets and brooches can help you make an individual style statement.
